A smile can be instrumental in securing a good first impression, nailing an interview or even scoring a date. Overall, it’s something that’s worth the investment. Braces and retainers can take years to correct crooked teeth and aren’t too visually appealing. Luckily, with cosmetic dentistry, you can upgrade your smile in no time with veneers.
What Are They?
Veneers are a cosmetic dental procedure that can be used to mask stains, cracks, chips or mismatched teeth. A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain attached to the outside of the tooth. Many celebrities have chosen veneers including Zac Efron, Miley Cyrus and Morgan Freeman.
The Cost
Most dental insurance policies don’t cover cosmetic dental procedures such as veneers, so it will be pricey. It can cost anywhere between $250-2,500 per tooth. You don’t have to get a veneer for every tooth, though. Many people only get veneers the front top teeth, since those are the ones most noticeable.
Who’s A Good Candidate
Though veneers are common, there are a few factors that could make it more difficult for you to get them. If you have an underbite, habitually grind your teeth, have gum disease or significant tooth crowding/damage, you may not be a good candidate. This can easily be determined during a consultation visit.
What To Expect
The process only takes 2-3 total visits with a cosmetic dentist. You’ll start with a consultation where the dentist will evaluate your teeth and determine if there’s any non-cosmetic dental work that needs to completed first. If not, you move on to the trial stage, where a very thin layer of enamel is shaved off your real teeth and a mold is taken of your smile. While you wait for the porcelain veneers to be made, you’re given a temporary set as a test run. Once the porcelain is ready, you can return to the dentist where you’ll get your permanent new smile!
